Statement

Location: Hartford, CT

Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement in support of U.S. Senator Chris Murphy's (D-CT) push for summer programming for students to help prevent learning loss and promote social and emotional development following a community meeting in the Town of Bloomfield yesterday.

"Children across the country have missed out on critical experiences that help with their social and emotional development. Online learning and the cancellation of summer camps, soccer practices, band recitals and more have been put on hold leaving many parents wondering how they'll make up learning and developmental loss. Senator Murphy has been a fierce advocate in getting ahead of this crisis and fought tirelessly to ensure federal funds were provided to make summer programming available for our most vulnerable children," said Larson. "The American Rescue Plan includes $122 billion in aid for schools and requires at least 20% of this funding to be used to address learning loss, such as programs that ensure students from low-income backgrounds have access to free or affordable summer enrichment programming."
