U.S. Representative Jake LaTurner Votes Against Democrats' $1.9 Trillion Partisan Wish List

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Jake LaTurner released the following statement on Democrats' $1.9 trillion partisan bill:

"It is disgraceful that when so many in our country are suffering, Speaker Pelosi and Congressional Democrats exploited the situation to pass a partisan wish list in the middle of the night that prioritizes their political agenda over the American people. This was the first COVID relief bill that did not receive bipartisan support. In fact, there was bipartisan opposition to the bill. A substantial portion of this bill is comprised of Democratic special interest group priorities, liberal constituency bailouts, and other completely unrelated progressive policy initiatives. Less than 9% of the total $1.9 trillion plan goes to combatting COVID-19 through public health spending. Congress had a real opportunity to pass bipartisan, targeted relief that was strictly tied to COVID -- but Democrats just couldn't help themselves."

Here is what else the bill goes to:

$50 million in funding for Title X family planning services, such as those provided by Planned Parenthood.
$350 billion bailout for liberal states and cities.
$135 million for the National Endowment for the Arts.
$135 million for the National Endowment for the Humanities.
$200 million for the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
$112 million in funding for the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) expansion, which benefits Speaker Pelosi's district.
$1.5 million to the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation for activities related to the pandemic and for "capital infrastructure activities of the Seaway International Bridge," which is between New York and Canada, thus benefiting Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's state.
