Brown Announces More Than $700,000 for Distance Learning in Seneca East School District

Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $722,610 in grant funding to Seneca East Local School District to help provide distance learning courses to Ohio families in Seneca, Erie, Sandusky, Hancock, Wood and Huron counties during the COVID-19 pandemic. This project will equip 57 classrooms with distance education equipment, provide 350 devices to students and provide students with remote mental health services.

"Ohio schools and teachers need access to the technology necessary to provide proper distance learning and mental health services," Brown said. "This funding will give Seneca East School district the tools needed to adapt to this crisis and make sure that students' needs are being met"

Additional funding will be provided by the Seneca East School District bring to the total project funding to $843,214.

These funds are a part of the USDA's Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant Program (DLT). The program helps rural education and health care entities remotely reach students, patients and outside expertise. These capabilities make world-class education and health care opportunities accessible in rural communities.
