Lummis raises critical Wyoming rural transportation, infrastructure issues during first legislative Environment and Public Works Committee hearing

Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming participated in her first legislative hearing of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on February 23. Entitled "Building Back Better: Investing in Transportation while Addressing Climate Change, Improving Equity, and Fostering Economic Growth and Innovation," the hearing featured Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials President Victoria Sheehan.

During the hearing Sen. Lummis questioned Mayor Hancock and President Sheehan about the importance of flexibility when allocating federal funds in order to ensure that rural communities like those in Wyoming are not overlooked.

She also asked Governors Whitmer and Hogan about the importance of expediting permitting in order to help address transportation and infrastructure needs in a timely manner. Given the significant amount of federal land in Wyoming and other western states, this issue acutely affects them.

Sen. Lummis holds a unique transportation-related position in the Senate. As the only Senator sitting on the three committees with transportation-related jurisdiction, she is well suited to play a role in any federal transportation and infrastructure legislation in the 117th Congress.
