Congressman Steven Horsford Introduces GREEN Act to Tackle the Climate Crisis Through the Tax Code

Congressman Steven Horsford has joined Chairman of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) to introduce the Growing Renewable Energy and Efficiency Now Act (GREEN Act) which would tackle the climate crisis through the tax code. The GREEN Act includes Congressman Horsford's provision to incentivize the production of Dynamic Glass, a specialized glass product that saves energy by providing control over the amount of light and heat entering a building. Congressman Horsford released the following statement on the GREEN Act:

"The climate crisis is one of the most pressing issues that we face. Moving the GREEN Act forward is a vital step in addressing this crisis head-on," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "This bold and innovative legislation would expand federal tax incentives to promote clean energy technologies and zero-emissions vehicles. It is our responsibility to provide our children and grandchildren a better world and this legislation would take necessary steps to protect the planet for generations to come."

The GREEN Act includes multiple provisions that directly impact Nevada's 4th district, including:

Protecting access to safe drinking water by investing over $25 billion in the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund and other programs to ensure all communities have clean drinking water and to help remove dangerous contaminants like PFAS from local water systems.
Investing $40 billion in new wastewater infrastructure to encourage efficiency and affordability, and help communities address stormwater needs, preventing pollution in local rivers.
This funding can be used for facilities like the APEX Industrial Park. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported in 2012 that wastewater projects in Nevada required approximately $3.08 billion.
Modernizing our energy infrastructure for a clean energy future by investing more than $70 billion to transform our electric grid to accommodate more renewable energy, expand renewable energy, strengthen existing infrastructure, help develop an electric vehicle charging network, and support energy efficiency, weatherization, and Smart Communities infrastructure.
H.R. 2 will also reinvigorate the commitment to renewable energy and combat the climate crisis by building on current successful tax incentives that promote the deployment of green energy technologies while providing new incentives for activities that reduce carbon pollution.
