Congressman Joe Neguse Reappointed to The House Select Committee on The Climate Crisis

Today, Congressman Joe Neguse was re-appointed as one of eight Democratic members to the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis to serve in the 117th Congress. Neguse is the only Representative from Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West. Congressman Neguse issued the following statement in response to the announcement:

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve another term on the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis and to continue to work for the people of Colorado in preserving our public lands, safeguarding our planet and tackling the existential threat of climate change. I was proud to bring the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis to Colorado for a field hearing on clean energy in the 116th Congress and to have several of our locally led initiatives cited in the Committee's national climate action strategy. Across Colorado, local communities and cities are taking ambitious action to tackle this crisis and it is crucial that we follow their example at the national and international level, and act boldly as this moment warrants."

As a member of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis in the 116th Congress, Congressman Neguse secured Colorado as the location of the Committee's first and only official field hearing. A bipartisan delegation from the Committee traveled to Boulder, Colorado in August 2019 to tour federal labs, speak with local scientists and hear testimony from local and state officials leading on clean energy and environmental sustainability. Over one third of the 55 bills Congressman Neguse introduced in his first term address the climate crisis, preservation of public lands and environmental sustainability. In July 2020, the Committee released its national climate action plan, a comprehensive roadmap for the Congress to address climate change. Ten of Congressman Neguse's proposals were included in the report, including the CORE Act, and his proposals to expand clean energy, safeguard climate science, invest in regenerative agriculture research and natural solutions, build resilient communities and bring Colorado's commitment to sustainability to the nation's capital.
