Murphy Co-Sponsors Resolution Opposing the Prioritization of Terrorists Over American Citizens in Line for the COVID-19 Vaccine

Press Release

Date: Feb. 1, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

On Monday, February 1, 2021, Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) became an original co-sponsor of a resolution in response to Department of Defense plans to vaccinate inmates at Guantanamo Bay against COVID-19 before more at risk American residents are vaccinated. The resolution opposes vaccinating these prisoners before American citizens and asserts American citizens should be prioritized in the vaccination process.

Murphy released the following statement:

"The fact that the Biden Administration was even thinking about providing COVID-19 vaccinations to known terrorists before American citizens is simply beyond comprehension," said Murphy. "I fully support protecting our American soldiers and getting them vaccinated. But why on earth would we divert our resources from the elderly and minority populations in this country in favor of terrorists and enemy combatants? Placing the health of our own citizens over terrorists should not be a partisan issue. The temporary "pause' the Pentagon has put on these plans should immediately be made permanent. I'm proud to join my colleagues in formally denouncing this outrage."
