Whitehouse Signals Support for Regan at EPA

Press Release

Date: Feb. 3, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, announced his support for the nomination of North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Secretary Michael Regan to be Environmental Protection Agency Administrator following Mr. Regan's EPW hearing today:

"Mr. Regan showed he is ready for the tough battles ahead. Simply turning the page on the Trump administration isn't enough to tackle the monumental challenges facing our environment. On climate, he will need to implement strong and legally bulletproof pollution limits to help reach our climate targets. He will need to fight hard against polluters' obstruction and misinformation machine, which will battle the EPA at every turn, and restore the agency to its mission of protecting the health and safety of the American people. And he will need to work diligently to protect the communities hit hardest by pollution after four dark years of neglect by the Trump administration.

"It's a tall order, but Mr. Regan has the record and commitment to meet the moment. I look forward to fighting by his side."
