Brown Statement on Georgia Runoff and The Incoming Democratic Majority

Statement

Date: Jan. 7, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) incoming Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs today released a statement following the news that Senate Democrats have clinched the majority by winning two historic Senate races in Georgia:

"I welcome my future colleagues Senator-elect Raphael Warnock and Senator-elect Jon Ossoff, who will bring valuable experience and empathy to the Senate, and allow us to deliver the change Americans demanded with their votes. For too long, the Senate Banking and Housing Committee has only delivered for Wall Street -- under new Democratic leadership, we're going to get to work for everyone else, and put workers, and their families, and what matters to their lives at the center of everything we do. Our country will finally have a Senate that aims higher, and that will work with the Biden Administration to get the country through this public health and economic crisis and restore people's faith in our government."

Brown added, "We have a lot of work to do to recover from this pandemic, address systemic racism, fight climate change, and create an economy that works for everyone, no matter who they are, where they live, or what kind of work they do. As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, I am confident that we can create a better system centered on the Dignity of Work."
