Cortez Masto Honored As Friend of American Farm Bureau for the 116th Congress

Statement

U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) was named a "Friend of the Farm Bureau" by the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) for her work supporting Nevada's farmers, ranchers and agricultural communities during the 116th Congress. She was nominated for the award by the Nevada Farm Bureau.

"Nevada's agricultural industry is an important part of our economy and our state's cultural heritage. These businesses -- from large cattle ranches to family-owned farms -- nourish Nevadans and people across the world, and many have been doing so for generations. Nevada's farmers, ranchers and dairymen are stewards of our lands, job creators, economic drivers and community leaders and I'm honored to fight for them in Congress."

BACKGROUND:

The "Friend of Farm Bureau" is awarded to members of Congress who have supported the American Farm Bureau Federation's policy priorities, were nominated by their respective state Farm Bureaus and approved by the AFBF Board of Directors.

Senator Cortez Masto is a strong supporter of Nevada's agricultural communities. She's called for the Trump Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide support to farmers, dairy producers and cattle ranchers during the coronavirus pandemic. She also helped ensure that agricultural businesses qualify for the U.S. Small Business Administration's Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program and has introduced legislation to expand access to lending options for local farmers.
