Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Judicial Branch

U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) today released the following statement after voting to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to serve as the next Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

"Judge Barrett has demonstrated herself to be a distinguished and respected jurist who understands the proper role of a judge -- to have fidelity to the written law and Constitution, not to make policy." said Senator Sullivan. "Based on her record as a scholar and federal court of appeals judge, the Senate's confirmation hearings, and my in-depth discussion with her, I am confident that Judge Barrett understands the issues important to Alaskans, including upholding our Second Amendment rights, restraining the expansive powers of federal agencies, and giving special attention to unique federal laws that relate to Alaska. For all of these reasons, I believe Judge Barrett is exceptionally well-qualified to be an Associate Justice on the United States Supreme Court."

Senator Sullivan delivered remarks on the floor of the U.S. Senate on October 21 announcing his support for Judge Barrett's nomination.
