Issue Position

A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Apr 19, 1775, Lieutenant Colonel Smith, under orders from General Thomas Gage, marched into rebel territory to seize munitions the British believed to be cashed there. Upon entering the town of Lexington, 400 rebels attacked 100 British regulars. This was the "shot heard around the world".

Why is this important today? Those "rebels" are the men we call "Patriots" today. The government those men perceived as tyrannical where trying to confiscate the patriot's best method of resistance. Fifteen years later, with the Constitutions creation of a central government, many of these same men were concerned that in time the citizenry would once again need to resist a tyrannical government. Hence, the Second Amendment to the Constitution.

Any government that cannot and will not trust its citizens with firearms, not only meets the threshold of being a tyrannical government but should be resisted by all means available.

To that end, any law that restricts an individual's ability to own or possess the firearm of their choice, I will fight to the end. Any law that would, by default, create a list of people who own or have purchased a firearm, I will fight to the end. I will be fighting for Constitutional Carry and Stand Your Ground legislation in the upcoming session as these are the necessary tools for us to defend ourselves from all threats, foreign and domestic.
