Issue Position: Achieve Equality

Issue Position

Kansas has a long and proud history of treating her citizens equally, but right now our statutes do not reflect this. Currently, LGBTQ+ Kansans can be fired, denied housing, or refused public accommodations for being their authentic selves. This is unacceptable. We need to update our non-discrimination laws to add protections for gender identity and sexual orientation.

Lindsay believes we also need to add a third gender option to state-issued IDs and driver's licenses, so people who don't identify as male or female can choose gender "X." When non-binary individuals have to show an ID that does not conform with their gender presentation, they may be denied services or outed. Adding a third gender option is necessary for recognizing the rights and dignity of transgender people.
