Issue Position: Expand Access to Affordable Health Care

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020

Lindsay believes it is more important than ever that all Kansans have access to quality, affordable healthcare. The next step toward achieving this in Kansas is expanding Medicaid. Expansion would ensure that another 150,000 Kansans have access to critical healthcare services and would help save rural hospitals. The state legislature has already forfeited an estimated $3 billion in federal funds that could have been used to save lives. Medicaid expansion is long overdue and the time to act is now.

Lindsay also believes in affordable birth control and wants to pass a state law that ensures the preservation of federal contraceptive standards, which require health insurance coverage for the full range of contraceptive methods used by women, including counseling and related services, without out-of-pocket costs. She also supports empowering the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to implement a program to increase access to Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs), which can help decrease teen pregnancies, abortions, and high-risk pregnancies.
