Blunt Rochester Statement on Trump Ending COVID-19 Relief Negotiations

Location: Wilmington, DE

Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) issued the following statement after President Trump's tweet that he will end all COVID-19 relief negotiations until after the election.

"This afternoon, President Trump once again walked away from his responsibilities as a leader, walked away from a good-faith negotiation, and in the process, walked away from the American people. In the midst of a pandemic that has infected over 7 million people, killed over 210,000, and left over 12 million without work, the American people expect their government to come together to create bipartisan solutions.

Instead, in the middle of difficult, but progressing negotiations, the President has pulled the rug out from underneath all of us in the name of partisan politics. The consequences of his actions are that millions of out-of-work Americans will see needed assistance cut in half, tens of thousands of airline workers will face layoffs, and millions of restaurants and small businesses across the country will confront the prospect of permanent closure.

When the American people needed him most, Donald Trump walked away."
