Issue Position: Criminal Justice Reform

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020

Our criminal justice system is ripe for reform. We must eliminate draconian mandatory minimums and re-implement judicial discretion so that our judges have the power to determine the correct sentence for an offender. We can rehabilitate offenders and save money at the same time. We also need to examine retroactivity on sentences where the law has changed. If you were sentenced to 20 years for possession of drugs, but that same sentence today is only five years, you should be able to petition the court for your release.
