Statement

Date: Sept. 29, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik voted today in favor of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act, bipartisan legislation that she cosponsored. This bill establishes the Horseracing Anti-Doping and Medication Control Authority as a private, non-profit corporation responsible for developing and administering an anti-doping and medication control program for racehorses as well as their caretakers and trainers. The Federal Trade Commission has oversight of the authority. This bill passed the House in a bipartisan manner this afternoon.

"Horseracing is an important cultural and economic driver in our region," said Congresswoman Stefanik. "I am proud to be a cosponsor of this bipartisan legislation to protect the horses and the sport with uniform, national standards. This bill will create an independent regulatory process and safety programs to help ensure health and safety in our historic horseracing industry, and I look forward to seeing the positive economic impact it has at the Saratoga Race Course and beyond."
