Jenniffer González Announces $ 22.5 Million in Federal Funding for Housing and Transportation to Mitigate Covid-19

Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón announced a new allocation of federal funds totaling $ 22,514,956 granted to the Island under the CARES Act (Public Law 116-136) from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD for its acronym in English) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA, for its acronym in English), to attend the emergency by the coronavirus.

This is the third allocation of federal funds allocated by HUD, as authorized by the CARES Act. The same sum $ 20.9 million under the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program. These funds will allow flexible financing of a range of services to address the impacts of the coronavirus at the community level through local authorities.

As part of this allocation, 28 municipalities would be receiving aid. On the other hand, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA, for its acronym in English) allocated $ 205,362 to the municipality of Hormigueros; $ 664,984 to the Municipality of Manatí and $ 731,000 to the Municipality of Villalba in federal funds from the Urbanized Area Formula of Section 5307 of the FTA, to be used to support operational, administrative and preventive maintenance costs to respond and recover from the public health emergency current . Covered expenses may include driver salaries, fuel, security guard salaries, consultant salaries, supplies, personal protective equipment, and cleaning supplies.

To date, Puerto Rico has received close to $ 10,305,144,996.09 in federal funds to address the challenges of the pandemic. The resident commissioner has advocated and managed federal funds and resources to mitigate the effect of the coronavirus in the different industries and sectors on the Island, and also in the communities. These funds do not include those awarded under the temporary unemployment benefits program known as Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), or Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA, for its acronym in English). its acronym in English).
