Issue Position: Fighting for Education

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020

As an educator for nearly three decades, making a difference in the lives of students has long been a priority of mine. As a parent and grandparent, I know how much our children mean to all of us. I fervently believe that a strong education for our students equals a strong foundation for their futures, and for all of our futures.

Over the last few years our progress has been stalled in the legislature. It's time we end the gridlock and come together to find common ground to make our schools a top priority. We must fully fund our K-12 schools to make them number one again, expand access to pre-K and before school, after-school and summer-school to close our achievement gap. We also must make college more affordable by freezing in-state tuition, expanding grants for private colleges and capping interest on student loans so all of Mason City's children are able to attend college.
