Issue Position

The education system in the state of Nebraska needs to be transformed to address the modern educational needs of our youth. As your state senator, I will work tooth and nail to transform the educational system in our state. I will mandate a statewide education standard and grading system in all public schools. I will also push for college & career prep to start in middle school for all Nebraskan students. Also, all public schools will be required to provide financial literacy education at all levels (Credit, saving, budgeting, loans, business planning, etc..). I will also mandate true and historically factual black history in all Nebraska public schools and black history courses at all public Universities / Colleges. It's also time to set statewide standards to require all public school administrators, staff, district employees to take recurring cultural competency and race equity training. We must also pay our teachers what they deserve and recruit more qualified candidates of color so our public school senior administrative and athletic staff reflect its school population. We also need to seek and establish alternatives to school suspension and detention to put an end to the school to prison pipeline. Lastly, our community needs independent family support staff for meetings, suspensions, legal advice, etc.
