Issues: Senior Citizens

Senior citizens are uniquely vulnerable to bad state policy and I am concerned that without appropriate action, some senior services could face damaging cuts. As a result of the COVID19 pandemic, the vulnerability of our frail elderly has come into even greater focus, as has the role of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities in their lives, and safeguarding this population - our parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles -- could not be more dear to me.

On this question, I have several priorities:

Never tax retirement income. Period.
Make sure that nursing homes are adequately staffed, that they are paid by managed care organizations at a rate that is sustainable for them, and examine ways to reform nursing home regulations to reduce costs to residents and the state
Ensure continued support for the Community Care Program and home-delivered meals that so many seniors depend upon to remain in their homes
Support the mission of Adult Protective services and continue the fight against elder abuse and financial exploitation
Safeguard seniors wherever they reside and promote best practices in our assisted and independent living facilities
Seniors give back in countless ways to the community and have a right to age with dignity. I will steadfastly support policies that protect seniors where they live and make it easier for them to deal with the government when they need to.
