Issue Position

I am a strong believer in the right to bear arms and will support the 2nd Amendment. Illinois already has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country and those laws need to be enforced, not expanded upon. The scourge of mass shootings has shaken us all and tragically our community has not been spared from gun violence. It is my deeply held belief that the way to stop these heinous crimes is to focus our attention on the mental and emotional prerequisites that lead to them and prevent those with underlying conditions, or history of gun violence, from obtaining guns as is currently the law. We cannot punish the overwhelming majority of lawful gun owners with new laws that ultimately do not prevent those who seek to harm others from committing acts of atrocity
