Jenniffer González announces $ 15.4 million for Adjuntas, Barceloneta, Caguas, Carolina, Guaynabo, Patillas, Head Start y health

Congresswoman Jenniffer González Colón announced the approval of $15,496,959 in federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services for child care services, research and STEM related programs.

The United States Department of Health and Human Services, through the Administration for Children and Families, allocated various funds within the category of social services for Head Start under disaster assistance funds.

Within this allocation, the Municipality of Barceloneta will receive $ 689,634; the Municipality of Carolina $ 191,040; the Municipality of Caguas will receive $ 194,250; the Municipality of Guaynabo will receive $ 639,900; the Administration for the Comprehensive Care and Development of Children will receive two appropriations of $ 2,768,343 and $ 285,000; the Foundation for the Development of Incorporated Own Home will receive $ 5,379,613 and the SHS Diocese of Mayagüez Family Development Center will receive $ 2,829,299.

Under the funds allocated by HHS for Head Start in the category of social services, the Municipality of Adjuntas will receive $ 923,832 and the Municipality of Patillas will receive $ 959,756.

These funds allocated for Head Start are final and they are pending the agency's disbursement date, which varies depending on the program.

The Puerto Rico Department of Health through the office of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention / CDC-NCBDDD National Center For Birth Defects And Developmental Disabilities will receive $ 160,000 under the program "DD20-2006 Improving Timely Documentation, Reporting, and Analysis of Diagnostic "for health services.

On the other hand, the National Science Foundation under the research and learning division allocated $426,332 to the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus under the program Collaborative Research Broadening Participation of Latinx Students in Computer Science by Integrating Culturally Relevant Computational Music Practices to offer students opportunities to learn computer science and its application to solve problems in STEM fields.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services allocated $ 49,960 to the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico for the Accelerating Promising Practices for Small Libraries program for the Stargate to Innovative Learning Lab Center (ILLC) project to transform the School's library of CDIN Lab at a learning center focused on STEM learning to provide 7th and 8th grade students with learning opportunities to develop their problem solving skills, engage in critical thinking, and learn digital, informational, and media literacy.
