Location: Van Meter, IA

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig today endorsed David Young in the race for Iowa's Third Congressional District.

"David is a true friend of farmers," Sec. Naig said. "Throughout his service to Iowa, he fought to strengthen rural communities. He supported lower tax rates and fewer regulations to free farmers and rural Iowa business from the red tape that hinders their operations. He led efforts on conservation and agriculture research and marketing from his seat on the Agriculture and Rural Development Appropriations Subcommittee. He brought together stakeholders from all aspects of agriculture to introduce a bill to empower farmers to improve water quality, and two pieces of legislation he wrote addressing rural phone call reliability and protecting our food security were signed into law. That is on top of his dedication to being in every county every month to listen to our ag community and take their concerns to the halls of Congress. We need David Young back in Congress, and I whole heartedly endorse his campaign."

David Young thanked Secretary Naig for his endorsement. "Sec. Naig is a strong voice and advocate for Iowa agriculture. He embodies what Iowans expect out of their elected officials -- to show up, to listen, and take their concerns back to their office. I am honored to have his support and his friendship."

David Young was elected to serve the Third Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014 and reelected in 2016. Prior to his service in Congress, Young served Iowans as U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley's Chief of Staff from 2006-2013. A graduate of Johnston High School and Drake University, Young is a sixth generation Iowan and resides in Van Meter.
