Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) today announced Limington Lumber in East Baldwin, Maine has been awarded a grant of $346,894 and $722,850 in matching funds to generate electricity and heat for sawmills. This grant comes from the Community Wood Energy and Wood Innovation Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)'s Forest Service.

"As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I am so proud to see funding from the 2018 Farm Bill come to my state and support one of our biggest industries," said Pingree. "This robust funding will allow Limington Lumber to invest in local forest products, transition to renewable wood energy, and help protect Maine's forests. My congratulations to Limington Lumber--I hope to see many more grants like this in Maine's future."

The Community Wood Energy and Wood Innovation Grant program will help to fund the costs of installing wood energy systems and building innovative wood product facilities in rural communities nationwide. Limington Lumber will use locally sourced wood to reduce energy costs and fossil fuel use while supporting local forest management.
