Rep. Carson Statement on Third Anniversary of Trump's Muslim Ban

Statement

Congressman André Carson, the second Muslim elected to Congress, released the following statement on the third anniversary of the President's executive order blocking travel from several Muslim-majority countries:

"Three years after President Trump announced his Muslim Ban, the harmful effects of this cruel policy are clearer than ever. Meanwhile, our country isn't any safer, our nation is less respected around the world, and our reputation as a beacon of light to those in need has dimmed.

"The failures of this experiment in bigotry should be obvious to the President and his Administration. But if recent reporting is correct, the President is doubling down again, expanding the ban to include additional countries. This action would hurt even more people, tear more families apart, and take our nation even further down the wrong path. We can't let this policy -- the cornerstone of his extreme, far-right agenda -- stand for a moment longer.

"That's why I continue working passionately to pass the No Ban Act, a bill I co-authored that would end this Administration's Muslim Ban and help restore our nation's integrity. This morning, I joined with my House and Senate colleagues and a wide array of stakeholders of many faiths and backgrounds to urge Congress to pass the No Ban Act. With the support of more than 200 cosponsors in the House, and the endorsement of nearly 400 civil rights, national security and community organizations, it's clear that Americans want us to take bold action to end the Muslim Ban by passing this bill. I'm confident we can achieve that, as long as we remain united for justice."
