Gov. Justice addresses West Virginia Association of Counties during annual conference

Statement

Gov. Jim Justice delivered remarks at the West Virginia Association of Counties' 2020 annual conference event in Charleston on Monday, speaking with community leaders about the progress being seen across the entire state.

"You are the engines that really make our state go," Gov. Justice said. "You're on the ground in your counties, you know your people and you know what they want out of life. And so you know, more that anyone, what's best for us to do to continue building a better future for everyone."

The WVACO represents West Virginia's elected county officials, the constitutional offices of county commissioners, county clerks, circuit clerks, sheriffs, assessors, and prosecuting attorneys. Their mission is to achieve unity of purpose among elected county officials in order to promote the professionalism, innovation, and preservation of county government for the benefit of the citizens of West Virginia.

This year marks the WVACO's 60th anniversary.

During the Governor's address, a key focus was his support for repealing the business and inventory tax in West Virginia.

"If we can get rid of the tax and the State can afford it and you embrace it -- meaning that your counties are protected -- and if the school systems like it, we can do that," Gov. Justice said. "It will incentivize more people and more businesses to come."
