New home program gets a boost

Press Release

Date: Jan. 13, 2020

Over 500 families originally signed up after FEMA agreed to offer its Permanent Housing Construction program to Yutu survivors last March. But the replacement home building did not begin quickly and many families have now opted out. That may change now that my Disaster Recovery Workforce Act is law. FEMA Regional Administrator Bob Fenton told me the 3,000 construction workers the law permits will speed the PHC program, when he and I met in December. He also told me that families that had opted out could reapply to get a new home built for them. Over the holidays, I toured one of the typhoon-proof homes that is near completion.
