STATEMENT BY CONGRESSMAN JEB BRADLEY ON THE CONFERENCE REPORT FOR THE LABOR, HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES APPROPRIATIONS BILL

(Washington, D.C.) - First District Congressman Jeb Bradley issued the following statement after the House of Representatives failed to pass H.R. 3010, the conference report for the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Act:

"I am disappointed that the House failed to pass the conference report for the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations Act today. This legislation provides funding for these three federal departments, as well as a number of other agencies. Most importantly, this legislation funded the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) at $2.2 billion for fiscal year 2006. This amount is $176 million more than what was passed in the House version of the bill, and $601,000 more than the fiscal year 2005 level.

"With our nation facing high energy prices, we cannot afford to reduce funding for the home heating assistance program. Cold-weather states like New Hampshire need this appropriations package to meet funding shortfalls. With more families pushed into eligibility for the program, it is our responsibility to ensure LIHEAP is properly funded. While I am disappointed about today's vote, I will continue to advocate for this much-needed funding."
