Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-Ga.) voted today to ban the buying and selling of shark fins.

"I have been a long time supporter of this legislation because it is important for global ocean ecosystems," said Carter. "We have seen a decline in the number of sharks around the world, including off the coast of Georgia. This bill is about protecting the ecosystems in our oceans and ensuring that sharks can continue to play a vital role in them. I'm very glad this legislation was approved by the House today as this bill specifically targets the serious issue of shark finning."

The legislation, the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act, was passed by the United States House of Representatives today. Carter is a cosponsor of the bill and has been a long time supporter.
