Democrats Reject $46 Million in Federal Funding for Education

Statement

Date: Nov. 8, 2019
Location: Concord, NH
Issues: Education

Today, after every Democrat on the Joint Legislative Fiscal Committee voted to table $46 million in federal funds to benefit innovative charter schools across New Hampshire, including $10M over this biennium alone, Governor Chris Sununu issued the following statement:

"Democratic leadership should be ashamed of themselves for turning their backs on New Hampshire's students," said Governor Chris Sununu. "This game-changing grant would have cost New Hampshire taxpayers nothing and would have supported public charter schools across the state. It is clear that Democrats would rather see these innovative, public-school programs fail rather than support our successful system. It is a sad day for New Hampshire when improving educational outcomes becomes a political issue for Democrat-leadership."

New Hampshire was awarded the largest grant in the Country, with Alabama receiving the next largest amount at $25 million. As the Union Leader reports, the $46 million grant would focus on "at risk students and help extend the best practices that exist in high quality charter schools to all 28 [public charter schools] in the state."

Democratic leadership should be ashamed of themselves for turning their backs on New Hampshire's students.
