Norton to Speak at D.C. National Trans Visibility Day, Saturday

Press Release

Date: Sept. 27, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) has announced she will speak at the District of Columbia's celebration of National Trans Visibility Day at Freedom Plaza on Pennsylvania Avenue this Saturday, September 28th, at 10:30 a.m. Norton has held several community events with the LGBTQ community, particularly focusing on the increase in targeted violence against the community, which Norton has fully denounced. Norton has also continuously pressed the U.S. Attorney for the District, Jessie Liu, for answers regarding the prosecution of hate crimes against LGBTQ individuals.

"As the District's LGBTQ community faces targeted acts of hate, particularly against black transgender individuals, it is essential that we stand together and celebrate diversity and love," Norton said. "The recent acts of violence against transgender individuals are startling and will never represent the welcoming, progressive District that I know. Saturday is a day to celebrate what unites us -- love of our fellow neighbors."
