Stefanik Co-Leads The Cyber Ready Workforce Act

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, member of the House Armed Services Committee and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities, has introduced the Cyber Ready Workforce Act with Congresswoman Susie Lee (D-NV). This bipartisan bill would direct the Department of Labor to award grants to businesses and organizations in order to support the creation, implementation, and expansion of registered apprenticeship programs in cybersecurity.

"As Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities, I have made strengthening our nation's cybersecurity a top priority in Congress," said Congresswoman Stefanik. "This bipartisan legislation will equip our workforce with the tools needed to improve cybersecurity capabilities in businesses and organizations across the country. This bill is critical for not only our workforce and economy, but for our national security as well."

BACKGROUND: The Cyber Ready Workforce Act would establish a grant program within the Department of Labor whereby the Secretary of Labor shall award grants, on a competitive basis, to workforce intermediaries, to support the creation, implementation, and expansion of registered apprenticeship programs in cybersecurity. Support services provided to apprentices may include career counseling, mentorship, and assistance with transportation, housing, and child care costs.

This legislation is bicameral, and a companion bill was introduced in the Senate by Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-NV.)
