Issue Position

Schools are the bedrock of Michigan communities. We wonder why our communities suffer while we have our youth locked up for 7 hours a day in decaying buildings that are costly to maintain. Such environments are counterproductive to 21st Century Learning. Schools should be closely integrated into communities, getting their young people actively involved on all levels. They can do so by employing innovative models such as Project Based Learning, various STEM programs, intergenerational programs, and extended avenues in Career Technical Education. Most importantly, parents and educators must be empowered to provide young minds with prestigious opportunities in their educational career. Brad will make this happen. It is time for a "people-driven" system of education and this begins by reshaping the role of the Michigan Department of Education.
