We have a major problem with access to affordable child care in Vermont; which in turn makes it difficult for parents to be involved in the workforce. Growing up in a daycare I have seen firsthand the policies used to address this issue in the past. And I want to do things differently. Even with all her experience my Mom is required to take college classes to continue her daycare because of new regulations. Likewise I have known multiple people in our region who recently wanted to start home day-cares but gave up because the regulations difficult to navigate. I understand the need to create safe places for our children but I think the state has overregulated and if we really want to improve access to affordable child care we need to make it easier and more cost-effective to start and run one from home.
