The east-west commute in Salt Lake Valley is terrible, in part because we have allocated most of our transportation resources to north-south roads. That is changing now, because Bangerter Highway, which during rush hour seems to function as a Great Wall of China, is finally getting underpasses and overpasses at major intersections. For people in my neighborhood, that has shaved at least 10 minutes off the commute morning and afternoon.

I am fundamentally opposed to toll roads, because building infrastructure is a basic function of government. I am especially against the idea of putting toll roads on the west side of the valley now that all of the roads on the east side of the valley have been finished. That would be unfair.
