Issue Position: Opioids

Date: Jan. 1, 2018
Issues: Drugs

The pharmaceutical companies are largely to blame for having created the opioid crisis in the US. These companies must be held responsible. Our communities must also come together to help those who have fallen victim to addiction. People become addicted because they have either been prescribed opioids by doctors, which may lead to addiction, or they have fallen prey to the criminal element that is attempting to capitalize from what the pharmaceutical companies have created. Treatment for addiction requires removing the stigmatization from those who need help. Education about the dangers of opioids is necessary; however, we must also provide education on how and where to seek help.
