Issue Position: Quality of Life & Health Care

Issue Position

A door-to-door meeting I'll never forget was with a resident who invited me to sit in her wheel chair when we talked in her living room. The experience made me realize how essential it is to be pro-active for people with special needs. To turn things around, we must:

Put People First
Push for public sidewalks, roadways, and buildings to be constructed/re-fit when repaired to provide access for people dependent on wheel chairs, walkers, and for senior citizens;
Give priority to (a) making catastrophic health care coverage available and affordable, (b) expanding the Hoosier Rx program to provide wider access for low-cost prescription drug coverage, and (c) increasing funding for home health care options;
Protect our natural resources and take responsible actions to make sure our air, water, and surroundings are clean for our sake and our children

PROGRESS MADE ON QUALITY OF LIFE & HEALTH CARE:
Justin has continued to help neighborhoods seek wheelchair ramps, sidewalk improvements and handicap parking sections for residents in need. There is more to be done but he is always willing to help.

Justin stood tall to help defeat an effort to eliminate the requirement that polluters like gas stations, dry cleaners, and industrial users be held responsible for the cleanup of their sites when they close. He also successfully opposed the attempt to gut the Indiana Dept of Environmental Management’s ability to regulate and hold companies accountable that pollute our air, water, and soil.
