Issue Position: Marijuana Legalization

Issue Position

For now, there is no debate. I oppose recreational and medical marijuana in Wyoming. In time we will have more data about costs and benefits.

Rule of Law
Having federal laws ignored in certain states is a big deal for me. Congress needs to act on the marijuana issue. If not, the federal law needs to be enforced equally in every state.

Medical Marijuana
The prospects look promising that some components within marijuana will have medicinal benefits, but in all likelihood it will not be the intoxicating properties of the plan that will help.

Tax Revenue and Costs
I want to see both sides of the ledge. What are the costs? traffic crashes, medical emergencies, use by pregnant women, etc all carry social costs. How do they compare with the revenue?

Federalism
Federalism allows each state to experiment with approaches to complex issues. As Colorado and their states gain experience with recreational and medical marijuana we will learn more and then decide.
