Issue Position: Fight the Opioid Crisis

Issue Position

Earlier this year, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan declared a State of Emergency for the Opioid Crisis. Now, President Donald Trump has declared the Opioid Crisis a public health emergency. In Maryland, Heroin deaths are rising sharply and with new additives like Fentanyl; we are seeing overdoses and death increasing at a much higher rate. We need to attack this crisis by increasing penalties for drug dealers, increasing care options for addicts and reducing access to all Opioid medication. We need to target the source, which in many cases means holding medical facilities and professionals accountable.
