Issue Position: Healthcare

Issue Position

Providing access to high-quality, affordable healthcare is one of the most important responsibilities of our State government.

Right now, the State of Illinois is providing health care to more than 3 million people every year, mostly through our Medicaid and All Kids programs. That includes about 650,000 people who get their health coverage through Medicaid under the ACA.

So our State government carries some enormous responsibilities -- for making sure that children get a healthy start in life, for making prescription drugs affordable, and for providing healthcare that literally saves people's lives.

Governor Rauner was willing to turn his back on those fundamental responsibilities and hold our State budget hostage for more than two years. My opponent was right there beside him, voting against budget measures that would have provided care to sick children and helped elderly people to live their final days in dignity.

We need to make sure we have the right people in Springfield, to protect the lives and health of the people of Illinois.

The Affordable Care Act has cut the number of uninsured people in Illinois in half.

We can't go backwards. If Congress won't do its job and protect people's lives and health, your state legislators need to be ready to step in and do it for them.
