The U.S. Department of Labor today released its hiring and unemployment figures for October, exceeding analysts' expectations and continuing to show the record pace that our economy is on. Thanks to Republican tax-cuts, which Ron DeSantis voted for and President Donald Trump signed, combined with Republican pro-growth policies on the state level, Florida's economy is in a perfect position to continue this upward momentum and create opportunity for all Floridians.
Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Ron DeSantis released the following statement:
"Today's job numbers show our country's economy is booming like never before. Last month, businesses created 250,000 private sector jobs, massively exceeding expectations. Americans' wages grew at the fastest rate in a decade. Our unemployment rate is at a 50-year low, and the Hispanic unemployment hit another all-time low. My opponent, Andrew Gillum, wants to reverse our momentum with massive tax increases, which would be devastating for our state. As Governor, I will make sure we build on our economic momentum by keeping taxes low, boosting wages and creating more jobs for Floridians."
Today's Jobs Report shows:
The U.S. added 250,000 jobs in October, exceeding analysts' expectations
Maintained a national 50-year low unemployment rate of 3.7 percent
Achieved an 18-year high for consumer confidence
Reached a record 100-month streak of straight hiring
For the last quarter (July-September), the U.S.:
Achieved highest growth in consumer spending for the last four years
Expanded the economy by an annual rate of 3.5 percent
Saw a 3.1 percent increase in wages and salaries from the previous year, the best growth in a decade
All of this growth has occurred while maintaining steady and sustainable inflation
Particularly good news for minority groups:
Hispanic unemployment dropping to a record low
Black Americans still experiencing historic lows in unemployment
Maintaining decades-low rate in unemployment for women
