Issue Position: Medicaid Expansion

Issue Position

Governor Corbett and his fellow Republicans in control of the General Assembly are blocking the expansion of Medicaid as part of President Obama's health insurance overhaul, which means we are leaving $3.3 billion in federal aid on the table and denying an estimated 682,000 low-income Pennsylvanians health insurance.

By 2016, the new federal dollars would support approximately 41,200 new jobs across all sectors of Pennsylvania's economy--this is not limited to health care jobs--a 0.53 percent increase over the number of current jobs in the state. It is projected that the increased federal funding, and jobs that would be created, would increase economic activity in Pennsylvania by $5.1 billion over the next two years.
