Assemblyman Chen is a former teacher who strives to provide the very best educational experience for all California students.

He served on the Board of Trustees for the Walnut Valley Unified School District, which has been ranked by numerous sources to be one of the top public school districts in the state.

Measures supported, authored or opposed by Assemblyman Chen include:

Authored legislation to foster public school choice by extending the District of Choice program which allows parents to transfer their children to participating school districts without a transfer agreement (AB 396).
Coauthored legislation to expand educational opportunities for students whose parents served in the military, allowing them to qualify for in-state tuition (AB 172).
Supported Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs by coauthoring tax credit legislation for robotics clubs at California schools (AB 624).
Voted to increase the Middle Class Scholarship Award for students seeking a higher education (AB 129).
Secured funding for the Community College Completion Grant to help students continue their education (AB 129).
Supported legislation to address the teacher shortage in California by encouraging more college students to pursue a teaching career (AB 169).
