Issue Position: Clean Air, Water, and Energy for All of Us

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2018

I love Pennsylvania. I think it's the most beautiful place in the world. I want my children to have the chance to love our state, too. Every single one of us has a right to right to clean air, clean water, and renewable energy. Unfortunately, many of our politicians are bought and paid for by the fossil fuel industry, which takes and takes from our state and leaves behind only polluted water and pipelines. Even worse, the Big Oil and Gas politicians prevent us from making major investments in wind and solar that would create huge numbers of high-quality jobs.
I am not afraid to fight these fights. The Atlantic Sunrise pipeline is being built through my parents' backyard. I've seen Big Oil and Gas try to turn our own backyard in South Philly into a big dirty energy and chemical hub. Enough is enough. We have a moral duty to act on climate change and to get serious about the transformation of our energy, agricultural, transportation, and industrial systems. This work will create hundreds of thousands of jobs in Pennsylvania alone, building an economy and environment for all of us.
As your representative, I will:
►Push for big, job-creating investments in wind, solar, electrification, efficiency, and climate adaptation in state-owned buildings, vehicle fleets, and parks.
►Work to dramatically increase state renewable energy standards, including doing what's necessary to update our electric grid, and making democratically and publicly-owned projects, like community-owned solar, legal in PA.
►Fight to ban fracking, with short-term goals of moratoriums on drilling in watersheds and new pipelines, limitations on exports from the state, and real environmental enforcement on drillers and existing gas infrastructure.
►Work to secure and expand spending on public transit, which is a critical need for many South Philadelphians (including me) and the most energy and cost efficient way to get around.
