Issue Position

For the last 35 years--from Project Director of WIC in a rural community, to teaching pregnant and parenting teens in Tacoma, to working as a family engagement director and executive director of the state's largest early learning program, to sitting on the Federal Way School Board--Claire's focus has always been on providing access, opportunity, and voice to marginalized groups, specifically communities of color, women, and members of the LGBTQ community. She uses her privilege every day to make sure that perspectives and voices not at the table find their seat.

On the campaign trail, Claire hears from families every day who feel the pressure of rising health care premiums and out of pocket costs. In Olympia, she will work to guarantee every family in our region has access to affordable healthcare coverage, protect the rights of women from partisan attack, and ensure our state is doing its part to control healthcare costs. She will take on the insurance industry to lower healthcare premiums, reduce the cost of prescription drugs, and expand access to preventive care like cancer screenings. She will champion expanding our healthcare system and making it work for every person in our state, because Claire believes nobody should be afraid to go to the doctor or choose between treatment and feeding their family.

Furthermore, with drug addiction and homelessness a growing regional crisis, we need proven strategies, not political excuses. Claire has fought for safe schools and communities where early intervention, treatment, and emergency shelter and mitigation strategies make a real difference. She will bring needed leadership to help protect the vulnerable--and our safety.
