Gianforte Statement on August Jobs Report

Montana Congressman Greg Gianforte released the following statement today in response to the U.S. Department of Labor's August jobs report:

"The August jobs report is further proof that the pro-growth, pro-family policies of President Trump and Republicans are putting America back on the right track and working for Montana," Gianforte said. "Since President Trump and Republicans enacted tax reform in December, the economy has created nearly 1.7 million new jobs, and wages are rising at the fastest rate in a decade. Our economy is booming, and Montana can't afford to go back to the failed policies of sluggish growth and low wages."

Background:

The U.S. Department of Labor reported the economy added 201,000 jobs in August, exceeding economists' expectations of 191,000.

The economy has created more than 2.3 million new American jobs and nearly 5,000 new Montana jobs in the last 12 months.

The national unemployment rate was 3.9 percent in August for the second consecutive month. Before this year, the last time the national unemployment rate was below 4 percent was December 2000.

Since President Trump and Republicans enacted tax reform in December, Montana's unemployment rate has fallen from 4.1 percent to 3.9 percent.

In August, wages grew 2.9 percent from a year ago, exceeding economists' expectations of 2.7 percent growth.
