Rep. Lujan Grisham on Trump Rollback of Clean Power Plan

Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration announced a plan to reverse the Obama Administration's Clean Power Plan that limited the levels of pollution from electricity generation:

"The Trump Administration's irresponsible decision to roll back the Clean Power Plan endangers the health and safety of communities, threatens the economic promise of clean energy, and will exacerbate climate change's dangerous effects. This Administration is choosing polluters' profits and a political win over the public health, safety, and future of communities across New Mexico and the nation.

"The wildfires, droughts, flash floods and more frequent coastal flooding we are experiencing again this year are all consistent with climate change. Yet, instead of building on the efforts to address climate change, this Administration continues to deny the problem and enact pollution policies that could lead to as many as 1,400 premature deaths annually, up to 15,000 new cases of upper respiratory problems and tens of thousands of missed school days.

"Congress must work in a bipartisan manner to enact legislation that halts this dangerous decision, helps workers transition to the clean, renewable energy economy, protects human health, and the planet from further dangerous warming."
