Press Release

Date: Aug. 21, 2018

President Donald Trump has approved Governor Kim Reynolds' request for a National Disaster Declaration. Immediately after the Governor made the request, Congressman David Young led the Iowa Congressional delegation to ask the President to quickly approve her request.

"I thank the President for acting quickly to approve the Governor's request and am hopeful the federal resources now available will help impacted Iowans recover from the severe weather which was devastating for many Iowa families," said Congressman David Young.

Since the flooding in the Des Moines Metro Area on June 30, Congressman Young has been continually engaged with local, state, and federal officials to monitor the recovery effort. He toured the storm damage with Governor Reynolds on July 2 and has spent time with local officials to learn about impacts on different communities and neighborhoods. On August 2, Congressman Young led the Iowa Congressional delegation asking the president to approve Governor Reynolds' request for a federal disaster declaration.
