Rep. Lujan Grisham Statement on Meeting with Education Secretary DeVos

Statement

Date: July 26, 2018
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: K-12 Education

Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement after meeting with Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos on Thursday, July 26th:

"In today's meeting, Secretary DeVos continued to demonstrate that she does not understand the investments and policies that need to be implemented so that public school students, their families, and teachers succeed.

"Since becoming Secretary of Education, DeVos has proposed cutting billions of dollars from after school, early education, and teacher training programs and rolled back civil rights and loan servicing protections for students. Most troubling is her support for diverting public funds to cover voucher programs that undermine the public school system.

"I am proud to stand with students and educators in reminding Secretary DeVos of her responsibility to support public school students and help families and communities thrive."
